Path Finders

The choice of the itinerary is important

Access to CERN

  • Two additional access points for cyclists exist on the CERN Prevessin site:
    – a turnstile entrance at the Route de Maroc, open 24h from Monday to Friday, and
    – a turnstile entrance at the Chemin du Moulin des Ponts, open 24h from Monday to Friday from 1 June 2016.
Consult the SMB web site for more details.
  • Access to CERN Meyrin via gate C and A is possible for pedestrians and cyclists thanks to a turnstile, from 6 am to 10 pm from Monday to Friday.
  • To move between the CERN Meyrin and Prevessin sites, take the cycle path on the Route de l’Europe.
(Its inauguration took place on 14.10.2016, by the mayoress of Prévessin-Moens, Ms. Charillon, and the Director for Finance and Human Resources, M. Steinacher. See the photos.)
  • Safe commuting between the CERN hostel at St. Genis and the CERN Prevessin site is possible using the more quiet back roads.

Cycling to CERN

Cycling on busy roads is often no fun. It’s usually better and safer to take calmer streets with fewer and slower cars, or to select roads with cycle lines.

  • The Ville de Genève edits a good bike map which is available for free at several places, and can also be consulted on-line on their web site.
At CERN, the Library and the Medical Service may still have some maps that you can get.
  • Taking into account the heavy traffic in Geneva, you will discover that moving by bike is quite fast!
There is an overview about the distances in km and h between the Geneva city centre and the sub-urbs by bike.
  • For the Pays de Gex, the Association des Piétons et Cyclistes du Pays de Gex has drawn a map with roads equipped with cycle lanes.
A recommended itinerary between Ferney Voltaire and Meyrin might be interesting for some of you!
  • Furthermore, Google maps offers now the possibility to get directions for cyclists as well. Mind that this is a beta version which needs still improvement.

Cycling for leisure

In case commuting by bike is not enough and you want to discover leisure biking in Switzerland, you find an overview about bike routes on www.veloland.ch.
